My boyfriend was having a strong craving for bagels the other day so I decided to pick up some of Tofutti’s Cream Cheese for the first time. The texture/consistency was spot on for me. It spread perfectly and honestly looked delicious. I thought it was going to be one of those fool-proof, perfect substitutions but unfortunately I didn’t think it was quite tangy enough. It was creamy and certainly a fine cream cheese but it’s not going to trick a die-hard omni any day soon in my opinion! The flavor was just.. bland.
Honestly, I would like to try other cream cheeses to see if a different brand was one that has that sour, tanginess I love about cream cheese but I am not going to knock this one. If it’s the only one in your area or if you don’t like the tanginess or if you just want something cheaper then give this a try but if you’re more like me then don’t expect this to be a new favorite. I suspect it would work in recipes fairly well though.
